Episode 20 – My Way or the Highway
Elliot (Sarah Chalke) meets a new patient, Sean Kelly (Scott Foley), who she is immediately attracted to. They’re both anal retentive, neurotic and single. Elliot gives off plenty of hints that she’s interested in him, but Sean doesn’t seem to notice. As a last ditch effort, she chases after him when he gets discharged from the hospital and orders him to ask her out. He does.
Meanwhile, Turk (Donald Faison) and J.D. (Zach Braff) battle over one of J.D.’s patients. Mr. Hoffner (Fred Stroller) has ulcerative colitis. J.D. wants him to continue a medical course of treatment with drugs while Turk wants to treat him with surgery. The rivalry escalates when J.D. and Turk and the other medical and surgical interns square off in a dance number, a’la the Jets and the Knights in “West Side Story.”
Dr. Kelso (Ken Jenkins) and Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) wage their own battle when Dr. Kelso fires the Coffee Lady. Cox demands that he hire her back since her coffee is the best in the hospital. Kelso says O.K, but only if Dr. Cox will apologize to him in front of the interns for yelling at him. When all is resolved, Dr. Cox is back to drinking his coveted cup of joe, albeit, with a slightly bitter taste in his mouth.
