Season 2 - Episode 14 - My Brother, My Keeper
Turk is still waiting for Carla to answer his marriage proposal. The wait is even more torturous because she?s been in Chicago for the last five days. When she returns, he finally shows her the ring (which had been lodged in a patient?s colon for a few days). She still doesn?t have an answer for him.
When Turk?s older brother Kevin (D.L. Hughley) arrives for a visit, he plans to use him as a selling point since he is a dedicated family man. Turk hopes to convince Carla that he really is ready for marriage. But Turk gets a shock when he finds out that his brother is getting a divorce. Kevin?s wife left him, so he?s really down. A few nights later Turk and Kevin, joined by Rowdy the dog, go to a bar to drown their sorrows. They return home drunk, accompanied by the woman they met at the bar. Carla is waiting for them when they get home, but she soon leaves when she sees a drunk Turk and the woman.
J.D. has been assigned to work with Dr. Townshend (Dick Van Dyke), a well-liked and respected doctor who is also Dr. Kelso?s best friend. While examining a patient, Dr. Townshend asks J.D. to do a rather outdated and dangerous procedure when there are newer techniques available. J.D. performs the ?old school? technique and ends up slicing through an important artery. Dr. Townshend tells J.D. that he?ll cover for his mistake, even though the fault really lies with him.
J.D. goes to Dr. Kelso to tell him the truth, but that gets him into even more trouble. A little later Dr. Kelso tests Townshend to see if he can perform a newer procedure. He can?t. Dr. Kelso realizes that his friend isn?t as competent as he should be and has him relieved of his duties at the hospital.
Meanwhile, Jordan is back at the hospital for her ultrasound. As usual she and Dr. Cox are disagreeing - Jordan wants to be surprised, Dr. Cox wants to know the sex of the baby. Elliot comes into the room just as the sex of the baby is shown on the ultrasound screen. She looks at the screen and Dr. Cox sees her looking at the screen. Later, he orders her to tell him the sex of the baby. Knowing that she has leverage on him, she refuses. When he presses her again, Elliot reveals that she wrote down the sex of the baby on an envelope and gave the envelope to Jordan. Jordan later talks with Dr. Cox, explaining that she really wants the two of them to find out the sex of the baby together. But she says that if he really wants to know, he can look in the envelope and find out, as long as he keeps the information to himself. But Dr. Cox doesn’t end up looking in the envelope.
