After experiencing awkward silence when left alone together, Elliot and Carla realize that they have nothing in common except J.D. and Turk. Elliot attempts to address the issue by finding ordinary things they have in common, while Carla doesn’t even think it is an issue. When Elliot and Carla prep Mrs. Kellerman, a sixty year old woman, for breast implants, they begin thinking about what they would change about themselves and realize that they actually do have a lot in common.

A huge benefactor of the hospital, Mrs. Warner, is admitted as a patient. She chooses Dr. Cox to treat her because he is not a brown-noser.

Dr. Kelso announces that whoever writes the most interesting case report will attend the AMA conference in Reno. While everyone else is scrambling around searching for an interesting case to present, J.D. attempts to gain favor with Dr. Cox by saying he does not care about attending the conference. Dr. Cox responds by saying, for the first time, that he is impressed with J.D. However, J.D. knows that he would enter the contest if only he could find an interesting case. J.D. finds an interesting case in Mike Davis, who broke his penis. He plans to publish it, but Mr. Davis revokes his permission. Later, J.D. finds that Mrs. Warner’s case is the most unusual and is torn between entering Kelso’s contest and maintaining the respect of Dr. Cox. He decides to enters the contest secretly and wins. When Dr. Cox finds out, J.D. stands up to his snide comments by stating that there is nothing wrong with playing a game to get ahead. Later, Dr. Cox has Mrs. Warner put in a good word for him.

Meanwhile, the buzz that tonight is Dr. Kelso’s wedding anniversary spreads throughout the hospital. After inquiring, the residents learn that the significance of this occasion is that the next day is the best time to ask him for anything because he will be in the best mood. Turk is assigned to ask Dr. Kelso for a new argon laser, but forgets. He approaches Kelso later and finds that the whole “happy” day is a ploy so that Kelso does not have to deal with people asking him for favors everyday. Turk uses this information to blackmail Kelso for the argon laser.
