Season 2 – Episode 4 – My Big Mouth

While treating patient Martin Hogan, J.D. realizes that he knows very little about Carla’s personal life. When he inquires about it, Carla reveals that she is not big on sharing her personal life with other people. Later, J.D. encourages Carla to open up when he sees her in a bad mood. However, once she begins spouting off about her insecurities, J.D. is a bit overwhelmed. When she reveals to J.D. that she thinks there is something going on between the Turk and Bonnie, J.D. thinks she is being ridiculous and reveals it to Turk. When Turk slips and mentions what J.D. said, Carla is furious at J.D. Even though he apologizes, Carla reveals his secret to a hot nurse and refuses to trust him again. Eventually, Carla begins to open up to J.D. again.

During surgery, Turk realizes that Bonnie, a fellow resident, is consistently favored over him. Turk’s jealousy is fueled even more by Bonnie’s taunting remarks. When Dr. Kelso announces that, after discussion with Dr. Wen, he has chosen Turk to accompany him to Mexico on the “Doctors Without Borders” program, Turk begins to taunt Bonnie. He is quickly silenced when Dr. Wen reveals that he had recommended Bonnie and that the only reason Dr. Kelso chose Turk was because he didn’t want to take a woman. When he confronts Dr. Kelso on his decision, Dr. Kelso condescendingly admits it. Feeling guilty, Turk admits to Bonnie that she was originally recommended. When he offers his place to her, she snidely refuses it. Turk eventually declines the trip and sends Todd in his place.

After being ignored by Dr. Cox, Elliot sets out to establish a friendlier colleague-like relationship with him. When Dr. Cox receives bad news about a patient, Elliot sees his dread and offers to talk to the patient’s spouse for him, claiming that she enjoys it. Once she does this, Dr. Cox seems to gain a newfound respect for Elliot and invites her to join him at lunch. However, Dr. Cox begins to take advantage of Elliot’s desire to please and gives her a bunch of terminal cases to deal with. Dr. Cox begins to pity her and tells her to stop worrying about other people noticing her. Elliot finally gains some confidence from within.

J.D. inadvertently insults The Janitor’s intelligence. As he tries to dig himself out of the hole, he winds up insulting the scary cafeteria worker who serves Sloppy Joes. The Janitor and the server proceed to bully J.D.
